A short break from the Bangkok posts, here's something closely related, yet hundreds of miles away from Thailand. Khuntai Restaurant is indeed closer to home; A heaven for those craving for a lip-smackingly sumptuous Thai meal, with emphasis on grilled/BBQ meats and seafood, and dining al fresco style, in Butterworth, Penang.
A little long overdue, this post was supposed to see the light of day sometime ago, right after the Penang's exodus. But somehow got suffocated in my own work, and Whoosh!!!! The month of June has come and gone in a flash...
If KL got nice Thai style seafood at Nong & Jimmy, in Penang we have Khuntai! It’s not a new place but certainly a well known place among Penangites, especially for those who live in Butterworth. Desmond-t had been to this restaurant for more than 5 times previously but unfortunately they were all camera-less dining experience. Recently during the 2nd day of CNY, Desmond-t joined Bi’s family for a feast in this Khuntai Thai Seafood Restaurant.
Unfortunately, for this trip I was unable to bring to you guys the pricing list as this meal was generously paid by Waye Howe & Ling. Thanks to them for such a great feast! It was after all a warmth CNY meal in a highly rated restaurant like this...
Can't resist of taking Thai food even just back from Bangkok trip? Well, there is a place to satisfy your stomach -- Khuntai Restaurant @ Off Jalan Gasing. There are 2 branches of Khuntai Restaurant which is located at Penang - Butterworth and PJ - Jalan Gasing.
Cracking my head where to had my makan makan trip dinner with my colleagues previously, came out with few ideas and finally decided to try out this as I have been to this place 2 times and kinda satisfy their Tom yam soup. So, there you go~
There are 14 of us join for this dinner, thus we have go for their special set...
It has not even been a month since my first visit to Khuntai and yet I'm back for a second visit. This time, as usual for Saturday nights, it was Calvin and I but we had the pleasure of a guest appearance from JJ (trying to see if can make it a permanent addition to our makan-trips).
Anyway, back to the restaurant review. This time, we opted for some different dishes compared to last time. We still had the sour and spicy 'lala' and the fried kangkung in batter. From my last review, they still tasted as wonderful as they were. You can read about them in my previous review so I won't go into them in this post. Aside from those two dishes, we also ordered tomyam prawns, fried omelette with vegetables and kerabu mango...
Last Saturday(5th Sept 2009), my family and I went on a trip to Ipoh to visit a family relative. One the way back to Penang, we detour to Khuntai ( Thai restaurant ) located in Bagan Ajam for dinner. I must admit that we got lost along the way but the journey there was worth it.
We arrived around 6pm and quickly made our order. The location is quite strategic as it is easily accessible through the north south highway and located very near to the sea. I like the settings of the restaurant as well as it gives me the seaside resort type of feel. The restaurant was 30% filled up by that time but by the time we left aroun 7.30pm, it was around 95% filled up so do call up and make bookings if you are travelling from Penang there to avoid disappointment...
