Imagine yourself sitting on the front of a house built on stilts overlooking the sea; indulging in the wonderful flavors of home cooked Thai Food. A group of us food bloggers had such an experience at Lang Sae Lee, located in the Tan Jetty along Weld Quay recently.
I saw this place during the boat ride that I had on one of the events celebrating the first anniversary of George Town’s award of UNESCO World Heritage Site. This house looks out over the sea and the passing boats.
The owner, Madam Lee offers Thai dishes of appetizers, salad, soup, noodles...
I had read about the obscure Lang Sae Lee Thai Food by the Penang jetty from Criz and Alan. And I was intrigued by its charm and promise of home cooked goodness. So when I met Criz during the Sa Rang Chae review, I immediately asked him for more detailed directions to the place. And he very kindly offered to show me the way.
And so, that was how my family and I ended up enjoying home cooked Thai Food while admiring the view from Tan Jetty on a bright sunny day. We were truly very city people so we were very excited when we spotted this huge monitor lizard…
Throughout this festive season, I supposed many would write about buffets for Christmas and New Year celebrations. But many times, we were disappointed with the long queue and to some extent, many hotel buffets were fully booked.
Occasionally, PenangTuaPui received many queries to recommend for a less crowded place yet with great sceneries and romantic enough to spend some quality time with your special ones but at the same time offers great food at an affordable price.
All that in one….definitely not a easy task for us! To our fortunate...
That’s a good question to begin with. Lang Sae Lee is neither the name of a place, a state nor a country but the name of a person. Originated from Pulau Betong, this lady has been residing in Penang for the last 4 decades, cooking delicious and aromatic Thai cuisines that her neighbors would always be envy of. As humble as anyone along the heritage stretch of the clan jetties along Weld Quay, Madam Lee had decided to share her passion in cooking hot and spicy Thai dishes barely a month’s ago just to supplement the moderate income of her family members. As a result, what could be a greater news for foodies all over town other than having some home cooked Thai dishes at an unbelievable and yet reasonable pricing...
It is so rare that you can find an establishment that is dishing out great food and yet still not commercialized. Look no more. Madam Lee, a Thai Teo Chew who have been staying in Penang for the past 40 years decided three months ago to go into the restaurant trade after she received encouragement from her friends who enjoy her authentic Thai cooking.
Thanks to Criz who recommended me this restaurant. Another jewel to be discovered. I truly enjoy the food and atmosphere. The restaurant is situated at the end of the Tan Jetty is surrounded by picturesque view of a jetty long forgotten in time...
