Irasshaimase! greeted us when we stepped into Tonki Bento. In Penang particularly Pulau Tikus area, there is a higher number of Japanese restaurants mainly due to the presence of Japanese expatriates staying around this buzzing area. Tonki Bento is one of the many outlets tucked in the quiet Lintang Burma.
Entrance of the restaurant is lighted up with red lanterns which you can’t miss. The interior decoration is simple yet nice; with soothing Japanese music playing in the background. The place is patronized mainly by Japanese and some of them were chattering away...
My friend gave me a brochure on a Japanese restaurant called Tonki Bento near Pulau Tikus (Lintang Burmah Road, to be exact), so I decided to try it out this Friday. The place is hard to find if you are not familiar with the road there (note that it is not Lorong Burmah Road). Fortunately it is kind of smooth in finding the place. The menu is similar to the one my friend gave me (you can download it below). Other than providing dine-in service, the shop also provides delivery service. I tried to order one Sushi Bento but unfortunately they are unable to make it due to high delivery order (DUH!). As a result, I ordered Chicken and Salmon Teppanyaki set worth RM15.00. Both chicken and salmon taste excellent. A funny thing is that even though I am dining in, the plate and miso soup’s cup are served by take out plastic container. Perhaps this is also a “delivery service”…. to my table...
Everyone in my family were kinda lazy to cook and even go out to buy dinner, so we decided to call for delivery from Tonki Bento Japanese restaurant.
For those who have no idea where is Tonki Bento, it is situated in Pulau Tikus nearby Kassim Mustafa mamak restaurant. And of'coz in Penang island larrr..... not Selangor, lol. There isn't a place call Pulau Tikus in Selangor also.
Anyways, haha... mum ordered unagi kabayaki set (photo below), come with salad, macaroni side dish, miso soup, rice and a decent portion of grilled eel. Consider cheap at the price of RM9.80 (I think)...
Finally a new post! I hope you guys don't mind me updating about food, food and nothing else but food. Well, part of the reasons is because I stay in an ulu place for 4 days a week and I need food to satisfy this seem-to-be-small-but-it's-actually-bloated tummy of mine every time I head back to Penang Island. After all, Penang is all about food, eh?
Anyway, I've been longing to pay a visit to this Japanese food restaurant, called Tonki Bento since a couple of weeks ago when my friends told me how cheap their Japanese food was...
