A Saturday lunch was at Ang Hoay Loh which occupied the corner garden space of the State Chinese (Penang) Association in Perak Road. This restaurant is an icon for some of Penang’s most authentic cuisines. I was recommended to try out their specialty Hokkien dishes by my reader, Sky in my earlier post at Sin Lean Heang (another Hokkien restaurant) located in Goh Tiau Lor.
First on the menu was the Fried oyster mee includes ingredients of pork, prawns and vegetable. The mee is fried till damp with some gravy and it tasted good with the sweetness from the plentiful ingredients. Just leave the mee to sit for a while to soak up the gravy and you will get a plate of heavenly mee. Highly recommended!...
I remember sometime last year, I had breakfast at this area, and I thought I saw this place was under massive renovation. And happened today I was thinking where should we bring dad and mom for dinner, and this place was just came to my mind at the right time.
Have been having those normal ‘chu-char’ for quite some time, but today we’ll just wanted to have something different. And after all the old folks have not have Nyonya food for awhile, thus, we drove all the way to Bukit Minyak for dinner.
It’s a two shop lots that combined for this place, I supposed this place...
Sunday again.Today,I went out drooling for lunch with my friend who just came back from the United States. After discussing where should we go,we finally made up our mind to go to ANG HOAY LOH 红火炉 in Jalan Perak.
We didn't order much because we were planning for more delicious Penang food.
Well, when we reached there,we saw lots of people eating the "Oyster Noodles"蚝面...Do you know what am I thinking??No doubt,I will be ordering Oyster Noodles...
A true Penangite would definitely have heard about Ang Hoay Lor and the food that is served there. It is truly synonymous with Penang’s local delights and flavour. This quaint shop located right in the heart of Old Georgetown is famous for its oyster mee, bak khi, fried tang hoon, pork leg beehoon, fried oyster and tauhu suan na, to name a few.
Limited parking is available. We circled the area twice before we managed to get a prime parking spot right in front of the shop J. The authentic feel of olden days greeted us as we entered the shop.
It was quite clear that Ang Hoay Lor has its share of loyal supporters...
Ang Hoay Loh (紅火爐) may strike a chord among many Penangites.
It is one of the restaurants within Penang selling great Hokkien-style cuisine. The name of this restaurant sounds almost same with Ang Hoay Lor restaurant in Jalan Brick Klin (Jalan Gurdwara); some people said they are different, but according to my mom, both were managed under the same boss...I don't know which one is true...but I would trust the latter...=)
It was my mom's birthday the other day so we decided to have our lunch there. That was my first time there as I was not around in Penang for quite some time...
