There are many duck rice stalls around the corner in Penang, but only few of them are providing really good ones. I have previously introduced Taman Lip Sin Duck Rice and also Sin Kek Seng Duck Rice. Other than these 2 places, there is another one which I have always wanted to blog about, which it the Jit Seng Hong Kong Style Duck Rice.
I have been dining at this coffee shop since 5 years ago and have wanted to blog about it. However, everytime when I passed by the roast ducks were almost finished. Few weeks ago I decided to try my luck again and I arrived at 1pm for my lunch. By that time there were already many people queuing up for take-aways and waiting at the coffee shop to be served...
Penang is one of the states where you can savor quite a few types of duck rice. You can have the Peking Duck Rice, Pei Pa Duck Rice, Braised Duck Rice and the Hong Kong Roasted Duck Rice. One of the famous one would be the Jit Seng Hong Kong Roasted Duck Rice situated along Lebuh Carnarvon. The sole chef cum owner, Mr. Lam, has been in this business for the last 3 decades, selling his freshly roasted duck rice daily.
Even before he opens up his business around noon, you can see that the whole coffee shop would be crowded with people. What makes his duck rice so unique that people would queue up for half an hour just to eat it? Firstly, the duck is real tender with so much of ingredients...
I was told this is one of the best Duck Rice in town… and in fact, those that work or stay around the area also reckon the Duck Rice here is the best.
You’ll see people lining up to make their order and people waiting patiently for their order too. From there, you can conclude this is the best!
Each Roast Duck costs about RM36 to RM38, other orders like Char Siew (BBQ Pork 叉燒), Roasted Pork (燒肉), is vary from RM4, 6 to RM8. They used to have Roasted Sausages (燒腸), wonder why they stopped selling now.
