Every now and then, my family and I stumble upon a restaurant that we all adore. Now this is no easy task, as we are a family with varying taste buds and eating patterns (she’s not keen on vegetables, he’s not keen on spicy food, she’s vegetarian, he doesn’t eat fish etc etc). So to find a place we all like to eat at is hard enough. What’s even harder is for our friends to like the place as well! But, we recently found one such place…. none other than Blue Reef Fish & Chips! (located at Casa Permai 2, a few doors away from Annabelle’s Place)
I’ve been wanting to blog about this place since I first patronized the place back in Feb this year...
To start off the year, we decided to dine at a new eatery recommended by my friend Liang, called Blue Reef. This restaurant is located in the folds of Lebuh Lembah Permai, Tanjung Bungah, Penang. It serves up fish dishes alongside other western food. As the restaurant has just started a few weeks ago, they kept the menu “light and easy.” Among the items available currently are the fish, chicken and pasta.
The deco is simple and neat with indoor and outdoor seating’s too. We had ours outdoor as it was a pretty chilling and cool night...
Some time back on December 20th 2008, me and Gill by curiousity drop by the new place in 32 Permai off Velle of Temp, Blue Reef Fish & Chips. In fact we were forwarded their online flyer by one of my good friends weeks before their opening. The business is run by two beautiful persons, Swen and Christopher. Blue Reef Fish & Chips as the name has it is specialised in fish and chips, but not the common everyday road side or cafe type fish and chips. A brief introduction to what I call true fish n’ chips, the Fish n’ Chips is a popular take-away food that originated in the UK. It consists of deep fried fish, traditionally of cod or haddock, that is coated in batter or bread crumbs and served with deep-fried chipped or slab-cut potatoes...
It is raining cats and dogs here in Penang today, follow by loud claps of thunder and occasional flashes of lightning since last night. For a nice family dinner, we decided to go somewhere new so end up picking Blue Reef Fish & Chips (a few shops away from Annabelle’s Place)
One of the coolest feature walls I’ve ever seen. Painted a vivid grey, it displays artwork of the Blue Reef cafe, Sprite and Coca Cola. On the tables, there were similar sheets of blank paper as place mats on each table which I assume makes for an interesting pre-dinner entertainment if you were to bring along a box of crayons...
Finally I made it here to this restaurant. It has been 4 times already where plans to go here were canceled in the very last minute ever since the place opened. So with a few of my colleagues, we were here on a Friday after work for dinner.
Place is rather small so it would be best that you make your reservations the day before. I expected the place to look a bit like Manhattan Fish Market, but it was just plain and simple.
Looking through the menu, I found that there is actually more drinks than food...
