We first heard wind that Canton-i was to open at Gurney Plaza. In fact, when I was in Canton-i in 1Utama a few months back I did see the brochure which stated that their branch was in Gurney Plaza.
So much to our surprise, Canton-i finally revealed its sole Penang outlet in Queensbay Mall! We were there on opening day, January 9. As with all things new, Penangites flocked to it in droves!
I had arrived a little late, but food was already ordered. Fortunately for me, my dining companions knew...
Truly Hong Kong experience with authentic taste of Hong Kong cuisine is what Canton-i (sister restaurant of Dragon-i) is offering, menu ranging from noodles with jumbo shrimp wontons (dumpling), roast goose, congee, dim sum and dessert. Overall, everything is great. I particularly love the crispy crackling durian pancake, just that it was kinda greasy. Also, not to forget the steamed egg custard, smooth texture with orange flavor infused to create a deliciously fresh taste. Thumbs up!!
I personally think it is overprice for a restaurant that you have to take down your order...
After much delay and location change, Canton-i finally opened their doors at the ground floor of Queensbay Mall, Penang. This brand; which is associated with the Dragon-i line of restaurants, offers varieties of authentic Hong Kong cuisines. Upon stepping into this restaurant, the ambiance and atmosphere radiating from its surrounding was completely different of Dragon-i. Well, the open kitchen concept is still adopted, but the interior design; laced in pink and white colour themes, was a pleasant change. As I browsed through, I noticed the walls were mounted with huge mirrors, giving the place a spacious feeling. Taking a peek into the kitchen, one could spot the racks of roasted items hung along the glass enclosure, varying from the roast meat to the roast goose. Furthermore, there is a take away...
When I visit here, it was just opening for around one or two weeks. When I wrote this post, I have visited this restaurant for around three times already. After came back from HK, I found out that this restaurant taste is more near to HK “real taste” and what should the HK food taste should be. 5 “pao” rice which consist of chicken wing, fried pork, tau fu, egg and imported octopus, overall quite worth and nice. The rice taste is a bit differ and don’t know how to describe. You need to go there find out your self. Taste cannot be share. The wanton soup taste is a bit pure and no taste at all, just same as the one I took at HK before. Canton-i really a “truly hong kong”. The wanton was nice and you can found a big prawn inside. Yummy Yummy. The most disappointed is the mango dessert...
With the theme - Truly Hong Kong, Canton-i finally made the first debut in Penang. Located at the North Zone (next to KFC) on ground floor of Queensbay Mall, it is a popular spot to dine especially on weekends. I guess most of the patrons must be craving of the Hong Kong noodles and dimsum when they walk into at Canton-i.
Serving the famous Hong Kong delights, we made it to Canton-i last Sunday as my Significant Other insisted that I have to try their Wanton Noodles (Egg Noodles) that we heard are flying fresh from Hong Kong on weekly basis...
