Finally, I have the chance to go trying out the food at Shihlin Taiwan Street Snack in Queensbay Mall. The other time when I was in AEON Seberang Perai City, Shihlin Taiwan Street Snack was still under construction (Is it open now?). In the end, I chose Food & Tea for lunch on that day.
Shihlin Taiwan Street Snack is located at the basement of Queensbay Mall. It is only occupied a very small shop lot. Inside the shop, only 6 seats are available. Most of the time, people will just buy and take away the food. I managed to get 2 seats when I was there...
Recently I noticed a new small shop opened right opposite of Jusco basement (nearby Kenny Roger restaurant) called Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks. During a weekday this week, after did a grocery shopping at Jusco, instead of buying usual Jusco sushi set, I plan to try out the food there.
The shop is kind of small and I think it can accomodate less than 10 persons along the counter. Initially I ordered one Happy! Rice Box set. My instinct told me that it may not fill my stomach so I ordered an XXL Crispy Chicken (in chinese is called 鸡排… say it 3 times in front of a local Chinese girl and you will receive free slaps)...
As usual I went out for lunch with my team colleagues aka Lunch-mates. Since I worked in Bayan Lepas area, the places for lunch are mostly Jalan Tengah, Sunshine Market, Sunshine Food Court, BJ's Pan Mee, iAvenue, Hakka Mee at Pantai Jerejak, Koay Teow Tng at Taman Sri Nibong, Sunway Tunas and of course Queensbay Mall la!
Recently, we found a new makan shop open in Queensbay from an email- Shihlin Taiwan Street Snack operated by a young man! How young he is? 27 years old! There are only 4 Taiwan street snacks for you to try! Handmade Oyster Mee Sua, XXL Crispy Chicken, Crispy Floss Egg Crepe, and Seafood Tempura...
Just when I know about the new outlet at Gurney Plaza in Penang, I’ve went to try out. I miss the Oyster Mee Sua that I had a year ago in Singapore. That was the first time I get to know about Shih Lin which my brother who lives in Singapore introduced to me.
There’s another outlet in Penang and that is in Queensbay Mall near the Jusco supermarket. In Gurney Plaza, it’s located at the basement area...
This outlet, the ShihLin Taiwan Street Snacks has mushroomed in a few major shopping malls in recent years. Although the size of the outlet is not big and the menu selection is rather limited, but I believe it is making good money to be able to withstand the operational costs.
Thousands of Taiwanese crowd the local night markets in search of their favourite and delicious snacks, and Taipei's Shihlin Night Market is the most famous due to its very wide range of local delicacies in its small streets and alleys. If a snack is nice, you can surely find it in Shihlin! The locals say...
