Little Penang Street Market
culture . craft . contemporary

Little Penang Street Market is a commercial outlet created by long-time Penang residents, cultural professionals, and heritage experts to promote arts, crafts, and culture that represent the diversity of Malaysia.

It provides a low-cost sustainable market place for craft artisans, designers, and artists to sell their products, as well as an open arena for live music and performances.

Little Penang Street Market features creative products that are locally made, contemporary and traditional, as well as socially and environmentally conscious.

The December Market will be hosting a number of new activities. Our Programme will be as follows :

11.00 a.m. Wayang Gedek Workshop (1st Session)
Jabatan Warisan Negara, Kuala Lumpur has kindly arranged for us to have the services of En Md Shukri bin Edrus, an esteemed puppeteer, to hold a session on the making of wayang kulit for children. There will be a short talk on wayang kulit- wayang gedek and this will be followed with a hands-on session where children will be taught to make the wayang kult forms using cheap and simple material. Some of the more popular faces that are easily made include Pak Dogol, Wak Long, Ai Thong, Ai Keaw and Nunui.

Materials used include cardboard, bamboo, string and paint. They will be made using scissors and cutters. This session can be done with the whole family and it will promote the heritage arts of the country to our young ones. The participants will also be taught how to play with the puppets. The languages used will be English and Malay.

2.00 p.m. Christmas Carolling
Come bask in the spirit of Christmas and share our Christmas cheer. The committee thanks Marlene Fox for bringing the melodious voices of the IWA Choir to the Market thus spreading the goodwill and cheer of the season amongst the guests and shoppers this Sunday.

4.00 p.m. Wayang Gedek Workshop (2nd Session)
Along with this we are also featuring a few new vendors including
• Masks - Wild, Clandestine Affairs!
• Hello Sing Prince - Web Surfing Dolls!
